Park La Brea Recreation Center

Los Angeles, California
A Project for Casden Properties, LP

Built in the 1930’s, Park La Brea is the largest privately owned apartment development in Southern California. Nestled between four of the mid-rise apartment blocks is a five acre park with walkways, fountains, and now a newly constructed recreation facility to serve the residents of Park La Brea. This new center houses a state of the art theater, exercise facility, recreation rooms, a business center, and a full service cafe. Envisioned as the gateway to the park beyond, the new recreation center is composed of two structures divided by a steel trellis. Maintaining the deco style of the existing development, the massing of the structures are composed of concrete block banding and solid stucco surfaces. Oversized windows link the indoors with the carefully integrated patios and landscaping.
